1965 Chevrolet Malibu SS
![]()

Sold 10/06/1998
I owned this car since 1988. I purchased it from a friend who had this hard-top and a 65 convertible SS as well. After many months of pestering him he finally sold one to me.
After having some fun with my new found car I had to put it in storage in 1990, as it was not a car I wanted to rack up a ton of miles on. I decided to put it up for sale hoping that someone who has the time and TLC will give this baby a new home.
Currently the odometer reads 97k, it originally had a 327 in it (prior to myself purchasing it). When the 327 died they put in a big block. However the engine did not remain stock for long. This car runs and drives great with an exceptional feel of power at your hands.

Block Casting Numbers: 3969854 (From back of engine)
There seems to be some confusion as to what size and year it
actually is. Here is what I got from three Chevy websites.
| Casting Number | Displacement | Horse Power rating | Year |
| 3969854 | 402 | 360, 375 | 1972 |
| 3969854 | 454 | 360, 375 | 1972 |
| 3969854 | 402 | 1969-1972 |
| 3969854 | 402/454 | 375/360 | 1970-1991 |
If you have a better definition as to what exactly the block might be let me know.
Body: The body is in over all ok shape, no dents, some scratches, good chrome. There is some rust on the hood (I have a replacement) and some rust on the front fenders (outside mostly) where it attaches to the body (lower rear, in front of door). There is also some rust on the passengers side rear quarter panel (wheel well). I don't know if there is any putty anywhere as it was painted maroon/red before I purchased it and I myself am not into body work. Remember this car is 33 years old and looks good, but is not in show room condition. There is some other surface rust on the car, but it is hard to explain without seeing it for yourself. There is also some small amounts of rust around the front and rear window.
Dash / Gauges: All the gauges work on the dash. Some are disconnected because I have a after market temperature and oil pressure gauge that are more accurate than the stock one's. The odometer reads 97k, there is a Sun tachometer in the center hole of the cluster. The fuel and ammeter work fine as well as the after market voltmeter.
