Preparing for a Time Trail.

For auto-xers and HPDE participants who are looking to step up into a more competitive event, time trails is a great way to do it!

What is a time trial event?

Time Trails (TT) are high speed events in which your laps around the track are timed.  Competitors compete for the best time.  Although many competitors are on the track at the same time as you this is not wheel to wheel racing where contact is more likely to happen.  Just like you the other competitors want to go home at the end of the day in as good of shape as they came!

Different cars are in different classes based on year, make, model, and the modifications you have done to your car.  Classes range from stock to highly modified.

First time to a Time Trial program?

Most events like the SCCA TT program offer an instructional Performance Driving Experience (PDX) that includes both classroom and in the car training to help you prepare for your first event.

What organizations host Time Trail events?

The two largest sanctioning bodies are the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) under their Club Racing program and National Auto Sport Association (NASA).

Where can I find these events?

Although the main sanctioning bodies website often list all the events, I find it best to go to the regional website for more information.

Many regions also offer forums that you can ask questions and find out more information.  Events often are held at multiple race tracks within the area.

Preparing for a Time trial event is very similar to what I do for an HPDE event shown HERE.  As you are on a high speed track the same level of preparedness is suggested.
